MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - An Alabama lawmaker has prefiled a bill that would set a statewide standard for reporting school threats.

House Bill 7 , which has been prefiled by Sen. Matt Woods (R-Jasper), requires school principals to notify law enforcement if any person makes a threat to commit violence that disrupts a school, church, or government entity.

“I felt like we had to do something to slow down that behavior as much as possible and let our kids get back to just going to school and our school employees would be more comfortable going to school not having to live in fear,” he said.

Woods filed the bill as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives. He was recently elected to a state senate position in a June special election.
