Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday in Los Angeles after police say they found a firearm during a traffic stop, according to multiple media reports.
TMZ reported that the “Crank That” rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over near Melrose and Genesee around 2:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers reportedly spotted a gun inside the car, leading to Way’s arrest on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
It’s unclear what led to the traffic stop or whether anyone else was taken into custody. Details about the firearm have not been released.
Soulja Boy is best known for his 2007 breakout hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and other tracks like “Turn My Swag On” and “Kiss Me thru
