WASHINGTON — Catherine Hoggle is in custody and charged with two counts of murder in connection with the disappearance of her children.

Sarah Hoggle, 3, and Jacob Hoggle, 2, were last seen on Sept. 7, 2014. Catherine was reportedly the last person seen with them. Hoggle was initially charged with child neglect, obstruction, and later, murder. However, a judge dismissed the charges, finding Hoggle incompetent to stand trial.

For eight years, the Montgomery County court system repeatedly decided Hoggle was not mentally competent to stand trial. She was first found incompetent in 2015, after she was charged with child abduction. Those misdemeanor charges were later dismissed.

According to Maryland law, a person found incompetent can only be held for three years on a misdemeanor.
