SILVER SPRING, Md. — Firefighters say a car fire spread to a home in Silver Spring Sunday night. Two people and a pet were able to escape safely.

Crews were first called to the 10000 block of Meadowneck Court for a report of a garage fire just after 8 p.m. on Sunday. Neighbors reported seeing heavy black smoke coming from the home. Once on scene, firefighters found a hybrid car in the garage of the home engulfed in flames. The fire had spread to the second floor of the home.

Crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze. Two people and a pet were able to get out of the home and to safety. No serious injuries were reported.

Firefighters evaluated the homeowner on the scene for injuries sustained while trying to put the fire out himself before firefighters arrived.
