MUNCIE – At the request of the Muncie Police Department, detectives from the Indiana State Police Pendleton Post are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Muncie.

At approximately 6:23 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Muncie Police officers were dispatched to reports of a shots-fired call near the intersection of 23rd Street and Mock Avenue. As officers arrived, they heard numerous active gunshots in the immediate area. Officers then encountered an adult male armed with a handgun.

During the encounter, a shot was fired by police, striking the individual. Officers on the scene immediately rendered medical aid. The individual was transported by emergency medical personnel to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
