INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a near east Indianapolis shooting left a woman dead Tuesday evening.

It happened in the 3000 block of East 10th Street, just east of Rural Street, just before 9:30 p.m.

According to an IMPD spokesperson, an officer was responding to a call about a person having trouble breathing. As the officer got near the address, they observed a male run out the door of a residence. The officer stopped the man and discovered he was armed.

The man was detained while officers checked inside the home. They discovered a female gunshot wound victim. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the spokesperson said.

Police believe the shooting happened during a domestic disturbance and that children in the home witnessed the incident.
