A Washington County sheriff’s deputy has filed a $23 million lawsuit against the owners of a Tualatin apartment complex — claiming they failed to provide warning of a tenant who ambushed him in a burst of gunshots when he tried to serve an eviction notice.

Charles Dozé was shot seven times moments after another deputy kicked down the barricaded door to an apartment at The Timbers at Tualatin on July 26, 2023.

The tenant, Kris Graves, had stopped paying rent in April and had been heard yelling in the dead of night, according to the lawsuit. Graves, 34, was unemployed and had covered up the windows of his second-floor unit.
