SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Russell Road Church of Christ wanted to do something to ease the burden on parents with kids returning to school. Members got together and decided to host a backpack drive-thru giveaway at the church.

From 10 am to noon, people drove through with kids, and they were able to pick out the color of the backpack they wanted. They were grouped by age, so the children got age-appropriate school supplies in their backpacks.

Brother Vincent Gordon said, "We felt that it was a need for the neighborhood, for this community to do some outreach, especially during this time when kids are going back to school. You know it's hard on parents' pocketbook, so we thought it was a good deal or time to do this."
