• Gastonia city leaders will discuss the future of a cooling station currently operating on S. Broad St. • Volunteers and guests would like to see the station remain open, potentially with a lower temperature threshold for indoor access. • There are also calls for the city to consider opening a warming station for the colder months.
In August, Gastonia city leaders will discuss the future of a cooling station at 107 S. Broad St. after recently becoming partners in running the station, which is normally operated by the county.
Ahead of that discussion, station volunteers and guests weighed in on the service.
The station is currently open outdoors when temperatures are expected to reach 90-94 degrees, and it is open indoors when temperatures are expected to reach 95 degrees or higher.
