NEW YORK (PIX11) – An air quality advisory is in effect for New York City on Monday due to wildfire smoke from Canada, according to officials.

Other areas that are affected by the advisory include the Hudson Valley, Adirondacks, Lake Ontario, Central and Western New York regions.

The air quality index could reach above 100, which means that young children, the elderly and those with preexisting medical conditions should stay indoors.

The AQI in some areas of the state has already reached over 150 as of noon, meaning that residents should take caution when working, exercising or playing outside.
