NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Cries of “Justice for Montrell!” echoed Friday afternoon in front of the 40th NYPD Police Precinct in the Bronx as family members and community leaders gathered to demand accountability for the tragic death of 2-year-old Montrell Williams.

Montrell’s mother, Cierra Carroll, spoke publicly for the first time about her son’s death, expressing deep frustration with the police response.

“I called the police. They told me not to follow him and to go to the police to file a complaint. And then after I told the police that we had a warrant, they said, so what?” Carroll said. She firmly believes the NYPD should have been the ones to find her missing child after Montrell’s father, Arius Williams, failed to return him following a visitation on May 10.
