TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — My Safe Florida Home, a popular grant program that can help homeowners cut property-insurance costs, began taking applications on Monday morning.
The Florida Legislature allocated $280,000 in funding to the program.
This year, the program's focus is on low-income homeowners.
The program assists Florida residents with free wind-mitigation inspections and grants of up to $10,000 to help them make storm-related upgrades to their homes and qualify for property insurance discounts.
Properties eligible for the program include single-family homes, detached residential properties or townhomes.
Residents must be living in the homes and have been granted a homestead exemption.
