INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a suspect in the shooting of a woman on Indianapolis' near east side after a lengthy SWAT standoff over the weekend, the department said.

The incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 in the 3100 block of East Washington Street , a few blocks east of Rural Street.

(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects in cases until formal charges are filed by prosecutors.)

Responding officers located a woman who had been shot, who was "stable" when taken to a local hospital, police said.

Investigators learned the alleged shooter, the 31-year-old suspect, had barricaded himself inside a nearby home. Officers were also told that guns may be inside the home.

Officers gave commands for the suspect to exit the home, but he did not, and SWAT was called.
