A fire erupted under a PATH train in Jersey City, New Jersey , early Monday (August 4), causing panic among passengers and leading to the evacuation of the train. The blaze began at 6:19 a.m. ET under an eastbound train at the Newport PATH Station, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Passengers were evacuated onto the platform as smoke filled the train cars.

Thirteen individuals received treatment for smoke inhalation, with nine being hospitalized for further evaluation . Shocking video footage from inside the train showed passengers urging the conductor to open the doors as smoke spread, creating a yellow haze. When the doors finally opened, passengers fled onto the platform, leaving belongings behind in their rush to safety.
