ELKO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Elko Police Department is releasing new details on their pursuit of John Travis Stanley, a man wanted on felony warrants from Texas.

At around 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 1, officers with the Elko Police Department were alerted about a stolen vehicle out of Humboldt County.

Officers arrived and located the vehicle, and, say that when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Stanley sped away, driving at speeds of more than 100 miles an hour.

Officers continued to pursue Stanley until he ran out of gas. A portion of I-80 had to be shut down in order to take Stanley into custody.

Stanley is accused of fleeing Nevada State Police on July 31 .

The pursuit of Stanley forced the temporary closure of the Water Canyon Recreation Area, which has now since reopened.
