BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The daughter of a deceased Louisiana teacher is accused of fraudulently receiving more than $269,000 in retirement benefits.

According to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Office, Ila Marcela Jacobs, 49, was arrested on charges related to government benefit fraud.

The investigation began after a tip came into the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation from the Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana regarding alleged fraud.

Evidence revealed Ila Marcela Jacobs had fraudulently gotten retirement benefits in the name of her mother, Loretta Jacobs, who passed away in 2011, officials said. They added that the suspect allegedly received the more than $269,000 in benefits between December of 2011 and April of 2024.
