NORTHWEST PISCATAQUIS, Maine —

With an estimated population of 40,000 to 60,000, Maine has the largest population of moose in the lower 48 states in the United States, and many people come to the state with high hopes of seeing one. A woman from Lisbon shared video with sister station Maine's Total Coverage (WMTW) of a close encounter she had over the weekend.

Kim Roy says she was in a canoe with her father on Moosehead Lake when they spotted a bull moose wading in front of them. The moose stared at them as it calmly walked past toward shore. Advertisement

Moosehead Lake is a large lake in Piscataquis County, which is in Northwestern Maine.

Roy estimated the moose is about 4 years old.
