GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hall County Historical Society commemorated Nebraska’s first Lieutenant Governor with a Nebraska State Historical Marker on Monday. The marker was revealed during a ceremony at Pioneer Park.
Michelle Setlik, vice president of Hall County Historical Society, said they chose to place the marker for its connection to Othman Ali Abbott , Nebraska’s first Lieutenant Governor.
“It’s actually the site of the original Hall County Courthouse,” Setlik said. “Abbott himself was an attorney here in Grand Island. He lived across the street, so this marker is place on the path where he would have taken from his home to the courthouse where he practiced law.“
Setlik expressed Abbott was more than just an attorney and political official.
