Two people were killed and five were injured Monday evening in a multi-vehicle, head-on, wrong way crash in downtown Santa Ana.

According to preliminary reports, a BMW traveling the wrong way on the 2200 block of North Main Street, north of Warner Avenue, “at high rate of speed” slammed into a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, triggering the multi-vehicle crash, around 6:35 p.m. Monday, Santa Ana Police Department spokeswoman Natalie Garcia told City News Service.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene and five people were taken to a hospital in stable condition, Garcia said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, Garcia said.
