The YMCA has secured a building permit to convert its Charlestown building, a former hotel, into 100 apartments. The Y would retain lower-floor space.

The building, in the Charlestown Navy Yard, will dedicate each of its apartments to affordability restrictions. Just over half will be set aside for households making less than 80% of the area’s median income. The remainder will be so-called supportive housing, providing women and veterans with social services and other help.
