Illicit street racing brought more than 100 cars gathered in the heart of Newton, Massachusetts, this weekend, police said.
Circular skid marks were still visible on the street in Piccadilly Square on Friday, after Newton police posted about the incident, reported just after midnight Sunday. Along with racing, drivers were traveling erratically and burning tires, police said.

Some of the drivers were stopped and cited, but many got away, according to police.
"Although this does not happen often in our area, this driving behavior is dangerous!" they said in a social media post, urging anyone who sees suspicious activity to report by to 617-795-2123, or, in emergencies, calling or texting 911.
