WESTMINSTER, Mass. —
If there's an earthquake and nobody feels it, did it really happen? Yes, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A 1.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 12:31 a.m. on Wednesday in Westminster, which is just north of Worcester.
People generally report feeling earthquakes stronger than about magnitude 3.0, according to the USGS. The magnitude, location, depth of an earthquake and overlying soil conditions can affect how widely and strongly any particular seismic event can be felt.
This isn't the first earthquake that hit the northeast this week. A 1.4 magnitude was also recorded in North Penobscot, Maine, on Wednesday, and slightly stronger rumbles were recorded in New Jersey and New York earlier in the week.
A 1.5 rumble was recorded in Hubbardston on July
