HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - A South Mississippi law enforcement officer who spent his career putting people behind bars is now the one headed to jail.

Monday, former Mississippi Department of Corrections probation agent Michael Whitfield was sentenced to 10 days in Harrison County Jail by Judge Lisa P. Dodson.

“There should never be anyone like you - ever - to carry the badge,” Judge Dodson told Whitfield before deputies slapped handcuffs around his wrist.

It was also announced that Whitfield was terminated by MDOC after an investigation into an incident that resulted in a man wrongfully held in jail for months.
