The new superintendent of Montgomery Public Schools, Dr. Zickeyous Byrd, helped welcome students back to class to start the 2025-2026 school year.

Action 8 News caught up with Dr. Byrd as students were getting off of the bus at Goodwyn Middle School early this morning.

Dr Byrd spoke with us about the importance of the first day of school and the expected hiccups on the first day, which he says is all a part of the process of getting adjusted the new school year.

“Our overall mission is that we’re excited. We are ready,” Dr. Byrd said. “We are ready to start this academic school year again.
