AUSTIN, Texas — Starting next month, school districts around Texas will implement cellphone-free polices following the recent passage and signing of House Bill 1481. The law will go into effect on Sept. 1, a few weeks after the first day of school for the 2025-26 school year.

School leaders must have a written policy that bans the use of cellphones in classrooms by Sept. 18. The goal of the law is to eliminate distraction and enhance the learning environment in classrooms.
