BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) has signed an agreement of collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) notified WSAV News 3 of the agreement.
On July 31, BCSO became one of the 443 agencies part of the 278(g) program's Task Force Model, giving county's officers the authority to perform immigration enforcement.
According to the program, ICE will train officers on immigration law, multicultural communication and how to avoid racial profiling. However, in a public meeting in July, residents expressed their concerns and disagreements with the partnership.
