The Texas Department of Transportation announced Tuesday afternoon that the westbound lanes in Harlingen between FM 800 and FM 506 will be closed Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

TxDOT said the Texas Department of Public Safety requested the closure to investigate the scene of a recent fatal crash.

The last fatal crash reported by DPS in that area happened July 8 at around 5 p.m. when a 28-year-old man slammed into a 46-year-old tow truck driver from Mercedes who was securing a vehicle.

TxDOT said traffic in the area will be directed north or south on FM 800. Motorists will need to find an alternative route to continue westbound, either via U.S. Business Highway 83 or State Highway 107.
