SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- The town of Surfside Beach held a workshop Tuesday afternoon regarding the operation of golf carts at night.

After South Carolina passed a change in law allowing local municipalities to amend golf cart laws, Surfside Beach is looking at redefining the hours of operation and examining other safety aspects.

The current South Carolina legislation regarding golf cart operation hours prohibits driving golf carts from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and says you cannot drive a golf cart at night without headlights or taillights.

Some argued that the prohibition of nighttime driving is too restrictive, and others argued that if a potential change to either the hours or safety precautions saves one person, then the changes are worth it.
