GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- A number of people made it clear at Monday night's Greensboro City Council meeting that there's a need for more community policing.

It’s a very timely topic as Tuesday is National Night Out, which is an event happening all across the country that is meant to promote the bonds between individual police departments and their communities.

Thanks to a $2.8 million grant, the Greensboro Police Department will be able to hire 15 new officers.

“So we can start avoiding some of the other issues we hear about police accountability ... Something is broke, and we need to start fixing it,” District 1 Councilmember Sharon Hightower said.

She isn't alone. The topic of community policing just kept coming up during the city council meeting.
