LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — West A Street is completely reopen, marking the beginning of the end of a years-long project.

On Tuesday, the Lincoln Transportation and Utilites Department announced that West A from Southwest 40th Street to South Coddington Avenue was open to traffic.

Officials said the area still needs some finishing touches, including temporary street light replacement, seeding, mowing and weed removal.

The project, which stretched 2.5 miles from Southwest Fifth Street to the western city limit, took two years.

LTU called it one of the largest projects in the city’s history.

The improvements included new pavement, roundabouts and sidewalks that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
