MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Voters in Minot elected Mark Jantzer as the city’s next mayor in Tuesday’s special election, unofficial results indicate.

Jantzer received 2,351 of the 5,516 total votes cast, according to the Ward County auditor’s office.

First elected in 2008, he’s the longest-tenured current council member and has served as acting mayor since April.

Jantzer campaigned on responsible spending, lower taxes and quality city services.

Jantzer will fulfill the remaining term of mayor through next June and would have to run again in next year’s election if he wants to keep the position.

The city will now have to determine how to fill Jantzer’s remaining term on the council, which also runs through next June.
