NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Fire Department said firefighters battled a fire at a five-story commercial building on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the building on David Street around 2:50 p.m. for reports of a fire.

Upon arrival, crews found fire on the third floor of a vacant commercial building.

Firefighters used two attack lines to extinguish the flames, established a water supply, and conducted ventilation operations, according to the New Bedford Fire Department.

Additionally, the fire department said a Hazmat team utilized drones to assess the roof and search for “heat signature.”

Two firefighters were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for heat exhaustion, and have since been released.

The fire remains under investigation.
