A Mooresville man is accused of beating another man with a handgun at the KFC on East Plaza Drive after calling police to request a welfare check on a female acquaintance.

Brett Patrick Moir, 36, of Mooresville, is charged with assault by strangulation, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, assault on a female, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and communicating threats, the Mooresville Police Department said in a news release.

Stephen Christopher Johnson, 43, of Mooresville, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats. Heather Nichole McCann, 42, of Mooresville, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and accessory after the fact, Mooresville police said.
