A Smithdale man was killed in a crash in Franklin County over the weekend.

On Saturday at around 9:03 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 570 in Franklin County.

A 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 22-year-old Corey Pendleton of Smithdale traveled east on Highway 570 when it collided with a 1995 GMC Sierra driven by 75-year-old Paul Hughes of Smithdale traveling east on Highway 570.

Paul Hughes received life-threatening injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on Sunday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Corey Pendleton received injuries from the crash and was transported by private vehicle to Southwest Mississippi Medical Center in McComb.

This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
