SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)- Changes are coming to Louisiana's SNAP program in 2026.
Recipients will no longer be able to purchase soft drinks, energy drinks or candy. But ASAP founder Omari Ho-Sang believes this is just the begging of changes. She said, "I think it's important that we eat better. I think that is kind of like the thing that we all know without having to say it. Right, but do we need to legislate that?"
Many not on the program may think it come down to just bad choices, but in some cases there are no other choices.
There are food deserts all over Shreveport and for some wanting something to drink soda may be all that's available. Ho-Sang also pointed that some overnight shift workers may depend on energy drinks to keep them going.
