ELKADER, Iowa — The superintendent of Central Community School District has resigned.
Nick Trenkamp, who had been on leave since April, stepped down during this week's school board meeting. His leave followed a Facebook post where he suggested banning pharmaceutical ads.
In the post, Trenkamp wrote, "Not only does big pharma peddle their drugs, they promote homosexuality and obesity."
Trenkamp later apologized for his choice of words. The school board conducted a work session to discuss the next steps for filling the open superintendent position.
The district's first day of school is on August 25.
