ANN ARBOR, MI -- A man accused of repeatedly approaching a middle school girl on her way home from school will undergo psychiatric testing.
Edward Leon Newland, 25, was ordered to undergo testing to determine if he can be held responsible for stalking a minor by Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Arianne Slay.
Slay ordered Newland to undergo the testing during a July 31 hearing. The testing will determine if Newland is culpable or is able to plead insanity.
Newland was sent to trial for one charge of stalking a minor after a preliminary examination held before 15th District Court Judge Karen Valvo in February. She dismissed his other charge of accosting a child for immoral purpose, saying there was not enough evidence to send him to trial on that charge.
