MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KFVS) - Investigators served search warrants in southern Illinois on Wednesday morning, August 6 in connection with a deadly shooting.

According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, the search warrants were served in Mt. Vernon and Wayne City in connection with the deadly shooting on July 27 that left two people dead and five others injured .

Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s High Risk Team conducted a search warrant in the 700 block of S. 18th Street.

After securing the home, investigators from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police started their investigation.

Those agencies, along with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshal Service, then served a search warrant on Lappen Ave.
