KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The man accused of killing Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office deputy Elijah Ming now officially faces a capital murder charge.
The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that it will pursue the death penalty for 38-year-old Shawn Harris.
Harris was accused of fatally shooting Ming on Saturday, July 26, after a woman called the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department for help around 3:30 p.m. that day. Ming and a KCKPD officer arrived on the scene of a home in the 2600 block of S. 30th Street around 3:45 p.m.
As the two officials walked to the front door, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said a man inside started shooting at them. The KCKPD officer was not injured but Ming was struck by gunfire.
