It's not often we have the chance to help create a brand new forest from the ground up, but local residents can do just that this month, while also taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation.
The Ma Matow Sakow Healing Forest – sponsored by the City of Wetaskiwin with Project Forest – will grow beside By-The-Lake Park, transforming the former construction landfill site into a healing forest where Wetaskiwin and Maskwacis residents alike can connect with nature and each other.
When fully planted, the 3.3-hectare site will be home to more than 6,600 new trees and plants, including a mix of balsam poplar, aspen, spruce and willow trees, that will create a diverse ecosystem.
