MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (FOX 56) — While the chances of a shooter getting into a school are generally low, they're not zero, which is why first responders are always looking to stay a step ahead.

First responders from all sectors came to Roundstone Elementary on Wednesday, Aug. 6, for active shooter training led by the Kentucky State Police (KSP).

Detective Ryan Loudermilk said while the idea is to never have to use the training, he knows the Rockcastle County community will be ready because of it.

"They know that this is training only, but you still see that elevated heart rate and confusion, and we know that that's coming. That's just that's just an ounce of what it would be like if it were real life,” Louderemilk said.
