Eleven Georgia sheriffs — including Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen — have issued a formal letter to the Executive Board of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association (GSA), opposing the organization’s recent legal action to seek attorney’s fees from Judge Glenda Hatchett — a survivor of sexual battery at the hands of former Bleckley County Sheriff Kris Coody.
The letter, sent on Aug. 6, was addressed to GSA Executive Director J. Terry Norris and the executive board. It reflects the collective voice of sheriffs from across the state who believe the decision to pursue financial penalties from a documented and adjudicated victim is not only harmful but wholly incompatible with the values law enforcement leaders are called to uphold.
