NORMAL ( 25News Now ) - As fall sports approach, OSF Healthcare and Illinois State University teamed up to make sure high school athletic trainers are ready for any medical emergency.

Nearly 40 athletic trainers from area high schools participated –rotating among stations to brush up on how to appropriately perform CPR, deliver oxygen, hydrate, cool, splint, and put athletes on spine boards, among other medical emergencies.

One of the many subjects focused on was heat exhaustion and heat stroke, as Central Illinois has seen one of the hottest summers on record.

Joe Whitson, who manages the physicians who serve as athletic trainers and helped with the stations, said the training helped reinforce for trainers how to identify various conditions.
