ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said they are searching for an exotic pet after a man stole it from an animal sanctuary.
According to deputies, 20-year-old Bennett Van Ever, a former wildlife rescue employee, was charged with grand larceny after he stole the African Serval cat overnight on July 10.
Officials said the Serval cat named “CJ” is believed to be out of the county or even the state.
The sheriff’s office said several individuals may have knowledge about the CJ’s whereabouts and are asking them to come forward with any relevant information.
Deputies mentioned that Van Every has since bonded out of the detention center after being arrested on Aug. 2.
