IOWA CITY, Iowa ( KCRG /Gray News) – A 19-year-old in Iowa is facing several charges after he allegedly put a vehicle in reverse, jumped out of it while it was moving, and crashed it in downtown Iowa City.

Blake Stejskal, 19, is charged with operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, second-degree criminal mischief and operating while under the influence (OWI).

According to a criminal complaint, Stejskal got into an unoccupied, running vehicle at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday. Police said the car did not belong to Stejskal.

Once inside the vehicle, Stejskal put it in reverse or neutral, then jumped out of it as it was moving.

The vehicle crashed into a pedestrian crosswalk signal, damaging both the car and the signal. Total damages are estimated to be around $2,000.
