GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — A new piece of information has come to light in the arson and homicide investigation in Garner in which three were found dead inside a home on a Tuesday morning in late June.
In an autopsy for one of the victims, 15-year-old River Collins, was released on Tuesday. It shows his cause of death was not fire-related, but that he was shot and killed.
River, along with his 13-year-old brother, Jet, and their father, Shannon Collins, 49, were found with gunshot wounds, according to the report.
The first crew to arrive on the scene on June 24 found heavy smoke pouring from the home. Engines from Garner, Fairview and Fuquay-Varina worked to knock the fire out and clear the smoke. The three were found on a search of the home, already deceased.
