RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Mateo Madina and Chardazha Alston, both 23, are being held on a $50,000 bond after they were accused of assaulting a woman and stealing her car with two children inside late Thursday night.

They are facing kidnapping, carjacking and several more charges.

An 11-year-old and a 4-year-old were found after the reported carjacking on New Bern Avenue, according to the Raleigh Police Department. Officers responded and found the car around 10 p.m. in the parking lot of a Food Lion on New Bern Avenue.

Officers said the incident stemmed from a domestic violence situation in which three people were going to the grocery store. At a certain point, a violent interaction transpired and that's when police said the car, a Mazda, was stolen.
