RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Liz Simpers, the former President of the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce, now accused of stealing more than $65,000 from the group, faced a judge for the first time today on those charges.
A judge briefly explained to Simpers that she’s facing four counts of embezzlement and told her she can hire an attorney or ask for a court-appointed one. Simpers barely spoke, only saying, “I signed a waiver to hire my own attorney.”

She stepped down from her role as President of the chamber in August of 2
