WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Watertown’s school board is moving forward with a controversial change to its Universal Pre-K program, and that has some organizations worried.

“I’m getting emotional because the decision made to cut slots is going to affect not every parent and child but your mission. It starts at 3 and 4,” said Melissa Jenkins, director of Head Start Pre-K.

An emotional response to the Watertown school board passing a resolution that changes how its UPK program is run. The decision wasn’t unanimous, however, passing 5 to 2, with one abstention. Board member Rande Richardson voted no, saying school administration hadn’t been transparent with the community.
