SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Around midnight Wednesday, Aug. 6, a water main break in Sioux City’s Morningside area began to fill up basements and backed up into the street along Seger Avenue and South Mulberry Street.

Residents tell KTIV that they saw water spouting out of their shower drains and bathroom sinks in their basements.

“It was a six-inch water main that broke,” said Sioux City’s Utilities Director Brad Puetz. “The water from the main break inundated the sanitary sewer system, which in turn caused sanitary backup in, I believe to be, nine homes.”

Following the water main break Wednesday, city crews were on the scene to repair the damage, and they had finished up work by the early afternoon.
